Just last week, I wondered if it would be a good idea to begin a formation to learn piano. But soon, I dropped the idea because I thought : « It is something you normally start learning when you’re 8 years old. Now, I am too old ». But what does « being too old »? Why isn’t it possible ? What is the real reason ? That’s the questions Merck Consumer Health wanted to answer in their last campaign.
To do so, the company organized a “social experiment” at a diving pool in Italy and proved that you’re never too old to try anything for the first time.
In the video, we see the families of young members of the Turin diving team, spectators of their kids’ training session in a monumental pool. The parents are impressed by the talent of their children. A women says « I would like to try it, but it’s the kind of sport you have to start as a child. » And that’s typically how all the little dreams we have as adults are abandoned…
To prove that you are never too old to try something new, Pino Auber, a 79-year-old man from Trieste, decides to dive from a ten-meter platform. He started diving at the age of 57. He explains that these kind of dreams make him feel like a kid again.
I think the campaign is brilliant because the message is clear and inspirational. We all have dreams. And dreams are not only reserved for children. It could be your first time, anytime. Nothing can stop you.
